The evidence that the present administration not only has no regard whatsoever to the intersts of justice, but that its reckless management of the criminal justice system is, even in pure financial terms, is now overwhelming.
It should, incidentally, be noted that whilst these extremely complicated and involved proceedings attract £175.25 per day, prosecuting a session list in the magistrates’ court, for which preparation of no more than an hour is available, is remunerated at £200 per day, or £240 per day for trials lasting more than one day. The fees in both cases come from the same agency: the Crown Prosecution Service.
